404

Via Dizzy, here is a selection of bizarre and beautiful 404 error pages.

Some are amusing, some are inventive, some are just works of art: who would have thought that a humble error page could be so entertaining?

My favourites are this one, this one and this one.

I might have to wander off and make myself a nice 404. When I have some time to waste, anyway...

UPDATE: I sent the article to my boss and pointed out that we should have a good 404 for our site. He replied, saying that he liked the one above but it should be a picture of me instead...

Creating a 404 page is one of those perfect little Friday afternoon jobs for a developer. I used to keep a list of harmless little jobs like this to do on Friday afternoons; avoiding the risk of breaking something just before heading off for the weekend!

Wish I could remember where this one popped up:

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pron surfed, weak and weary.
Over many a strange and spurious pronsite of 'Hot XXX galore'.
While I clicked my favourite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning.
And my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour.
'Tis not possible!', I muttered, 'give me back my free hardcore!'

Quoth the server,

'404'

Wasn't Pron by the way.

This one popped up last night and I thought you may enjoy it - if nothing else it involves a cat which is always a winner in my book.

Oh yeah? So what has happened for the last ten years, exactly?

Over at the ASI, they are posting some of the winning entries of the Young Writers on Liberty. One does not want to put such keen minds off,...
