Sponsor a doctor

Via Timmy, Bill Sticker has a blogging student doctor friend who is in a spot of bother.
My blogging friend Merys needs your help in a matter of some urgency.

Vital funding has been withheld, and in order to get next years funding towards becoming a Doctor, and saving lives etc, she needs £1000 to get her grant back. All those wishing to assist, a tenner, a pound, some pennies, any spare change you can spare. We have two weeks to make the funding deadline, so click this link or visit Merys’ blog now. Not next week, not tomorrow but NOW, please. Donate via PayPal.

The girl herself says...
This is sheer desperation. I mean it. I'm financially crippled, and unless I manage to magic up some cash at warp speed, there is a distinct chance I may get suspended from medical school.

The reasons are many, and often include my graduate status, the fact that I'm classed as dependent on my parents (but aren't), and the fact that the student loan company have pulled some of my funding from the last academic year.

So, as much as it pains me to do so... I'm asking for your help. I know I'm not a charity case, but I've come too far to give up now.

The access to learning fund has rejected me, along with my university hardship fund. The bank won't give me a career development loan, so basically I'm screwed.

Do wander along and lob some money at the lassie if you can: both Timmy and your humble Devil have lobbed some in some cash, filthy capitalist libertarians that we are.

All I can say is that she had better bloody save my life at some point...

UPDATE: as Bill points out in the comments, Merys has raised the required amount.
So what I'm saying is one huge thank you to each and every one of you. I really couldn't have done it without you, and I feel such a weight lifted off my shoulders because of your generosity.

I promise, I will pay the deed forward when I'm in a position to do so.

Without getting over-emotional about it, I think that we have done a good think. The blogging community has not changed the world in this case, but we have changed one person's life.

So, from me, thank you to any of my readers who contributed. I think that we did a good thing.

Fuck's sake; what are we paying all this tax for if not to help people that are supposed to help us? This system is absolutely arse about tit. Donation sent, I wish her luck.

Why do we need to train our own Doctors when this New Labour regime just gets them from third world nations for free?
I mean, why spend lots of money on medical schools,it could be better used to employ'diverstiy/carbon/social inclusion advisors and more managers.
What the NHS needs is lots more highly paid managers and this costs money,so I suggest that this person woud be far better off getting a media studies degree and leave the Doctoring to our third world immigrant freinds.

Comrade Hewitt - Fuck off.

Devil - Just to say Merys (The student Doctor) told me her appeal made the magic £1000 marker last night. Thank you to all contributors, thank you very, very fucking, sodding, cunting wonderfully, arsecurdlingly much.

Was that okay for invective?
