The Tory MP Boris Johnson is to stand for the rectorship of Edinburgh University, it emerged yesterday.
The former editor of the Spectator magazine will face the award-winning journalist John Pilger, former Scottish Arts Council chairman Magnus Linklater and Green MSP Mark Ballard.
I never finished my degree at that august institution and, having left some seven and a half years ago, have no vote. However, I feel that it should definitely happen. As the P-G points out, it has to be better than the Jelly-bellied Flag-flapper*.
