Change you can believe in...

Posted by Devil's Kitchen at 6/27/2009 12:31:00 AM

I picked this up on Twitter, and it seems to be pretty fresh—here's the Washington Post.
White House Is Drafting Executive Order to Allow Indefinite Detention of Terror Suspects

The Obama administration, fearing a battle with Congress that could stall plans to close the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, is drafting an executive order that would reassert presidential authority to incarcerate terrorism suspects indefinitely, according to three senior government officials with knowledge of White House deliberations.

Such an order would embrace claims by former president George W. Bush that certain people can be detained without trial for long periods under the laws of war.

Now, ain't that change you can believe in, eh?

Fucking hellski: I knew this clown was going to be a fucking disaster, but Obama really is exceeding my expectations in terms of total, uncompromising fuck-wittery...

Yep: that's how you save the world, Barack: by imprisoning people without trial for just as long as you fucking please.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again: fuck. Ing. Hell. Ski.

Joe Biden said Obama would face a major test soon after becoming President. It has arrived - getting his story straight.

There was a pledge to close Guantanamo. He didn't say anything about not reopening it!

I'm surprised they haven't decided just to rename it.

Now they've passed Cap and trade (By one vote) in the US congress.

It'll all end in tears.....

Are we surprised? Given how repressive the socialists have been in Britain it doesn't shock me in the slightest that "The One" is a bigger control freak than anyone that has gone before him.

As some of us blogged, it was always on the cards. He is a weak pawn in the hands of the real power which is gunning for these things. Of course he's bringing in the police state but he's got more on his hands than he thinks.

There an awful lot of armed Americans and the majority of those love their constitution.

They never consider its their ideas and assumptions that are wrong they just think a bit more control,a bit more money and another bit of legislation will fix everything.

Gordon is bad but obama is truly deranged.

I'm looking forward to the wriggling from the left-wing media as they desperately try and justify this, after the years they spent hammering Bush on this issue. There's no way they will be able to criticise Obama.

We seem to have forgotten that Obama is actually doing nothing here that Bush didn't do first.

Rant about "Teh Eeeevul Socialists" all you please, but it was your BFF Dubya that put all this in place - and I didn't hear any of you screaming with rage when Jose Padilla was rotting in a federal prison for years without charge.

You people don't actually have any libertarian beliefs. You just have a kneejerk instinctive tribal devotion to anyone that the media tells you is right-wing. Pathetic.

Anon,

"Rant about "Teh Eeeevul Socialists" all you please, but it was your BFF Dubya that put all this in place..."

Oh, do fuck off.

I'm sorry—my Dubya? I don't seem to remember voting for him—because I didn't. Because, not being an American, I don't vote for the President of, y'know, America.

Nor have I praised the man. And yes, I have complained about detention without trial. A good number of times.

And just because Bush did it first, so fucking what? We recognised that was wrong; apparently, so did Obama and he pledged to do something about it.

Now we see what he is doing. Reinforcing it. What a fucking change.

"You people don't actually have any libertarian beliefs. You just have a kneejerk instinctive tribal devotion to anyone that the media tells you is right-wing. Pathetic."

Piss off, you fucking little moron. You wouldn't a) know me from Adam, b) understand what libertarianism is, c) say any of this had you read more than this one post, d) say it to my face.

Go fuck yourself, you bloody Obama troll.

42 days from our authoritarian fuckwits pales in comparison to "as long as I like" from the Obamaniac doesn't it? How can a President of the USA behave like the Emperor of China? It really is utter madness allowing the Pres executive powers of that magnitude.

Anonymong, once again, shows one of the causes of what's wrong with modern politics; this retarded "You're either with us or against us" mentality.

It'll simply be ignored. Not mentioned. A non-issue.

And if you think the left's vitriol for the Republicans is something to behold, just wait until you see how they turn on their former comrades who are stupid enought to try to raise it!
