TEBAF Margot gets a little twisted around...

The Ever Blessed And Fragrant Margot WallstromTM is a bit of an idiot; she's a bit like the Swedish Polly Toynbee, if you like. And, like Polly, she does tend to contradict herself an awful lot.
Thank you Roger Helmer MEP for taking the time to post in my blog. Here is how I see it: You have been elected to and have accepted to be a Member of the European Parliament and to respect Parliamentary rules and norms of behaviour. You are well aware that neither the Parliament nor the Commission has any say in how the Treaty is ratified. If you want a referendum in the UK then you have to take it up with the UK government. Shouting down speakers in the European Parliament is not only rude but pointless. Also, you staged your ‘protest’ during the proclamation of the Charter of Fundamental Rights which guarantees European citizens freedom of speech among others…

Er, yes, Margot; so, naturally, having signed that document, you were happy to allow the protestors to express their views freely?

Er...

Welcome to free speech, EU style: you are free to speak as long as you are not saying anything that Margot and her fellow dictators Commissioners disagree with.

We can't let anyone compromise the aims of the EU now, can we?

The Google search term for finding out how nice a person TEBAF Wallstrom is is "Maria Nordin".

Sounds like grim tale, but being unable to read swedish I have no idea how the story ends. Did Margot take the case to Cabinet. Did she only act after the revelations in the DN?

Now from what I understand, Mr Helmer and others were elected to represent their constituents, and with the awful list system, only those constituents who voted for him. When MEPs ae sworn in they do not have to swear to uphold the rules of procedure. Maybe you have to do that in the old soviet system but not in the EP. Now there are of course sanctions against those who break the rules, but as long as an MEP acts in accordance with his or her conscience and accepts the sanctions then they do not have to abide by the rules.
