There's a rumble in Gaza tonight!

I have to confess that prettier distractions have drawn me away from the news in general and the wee spat in Gaza in particular. As far as I can make out, one bunch of former terrorists, Fatah, are having a killing contest with another bunch of terrorists, Hamas, and the both of them are taking out their frustrations by killing civilians. Well, I say innocent but, via Mr Eugenides, it seems that even those about to die show an almost admirable level of hate...
In the past 48 hours 19 Palestinians have been killed, tossed from rooftops, executed at point-blank range, and shot in hospital wards. That number seems certain to rise. More than 80 Palestinians have now been killed since mid May.

Among yesterday's dead was a 14-year-old boy and three women, all killed in a Hamas attack on a Fatah security officer's home.

I'm waiting for the international condemnation, of course. You know, like when Israel killed civilians in Lebanon.

I'm still waiting. Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
"They're firing at us, firing RPGs, firing mortars. We're not Jews," the brother of Jamal Abu Jediyan, a Fatah commander, pleaded during a live telephone conversation with a Palestinian radio station.

Minutes later both men were dragged into the streets and riddled with bullets.

Ah, yes; the Palestinians should unite against the common enemy, the eeeeeevil Jooos. As Mr E points out...
There's something irresistible about this final plea: the Fatah soldier stamping his feet and pouting, "But it's not fa-ir!". (Note, by the way, that he did not say, "We're not Israelis".) Meanwhile Gaza burns, the Palestinians once again find that they have been let down by those who purport to govern them, and people queue up on Comment is Free to blame the Jews Israelis.

Oh who, oh who will stand up and blame the real enemy? This is not about Fatah and Hamas: this is about the evil Jews, those hook-nosed fucking kikes who control the world by buying up all the oil and seeling it to more Jews who then use it for burning the first-born of all Arab families in, like, a totally, like, sickening display of Big Jewish Power. And they, like, run all of the media too, yeah?

Luckily, the evil Jews do not control the heroic and courageous reporters of Comment Is Free, who lay the blame firmly at the door of Israel. Nor do those evil Jews control the courageous fuckwits at Pickled Politics, where Sunny bravely writes articles of interminable stupidity and lackwit bigotry. Aren't we lucky to have these left-liberal bastions of utter twats to show us all where the real blame lies?

Thank goodness that the EU have come to their senses and decided to direct yet more of my tax money to help the Pallies wipe each other out. This is actually a really good idea: the more that we can fund their weaponry, the faster the Palestinians will wipe out the entire population of the area and then there might be a chance for peace in the Middle East.

If only it wasn't for those evil Jews and their damnable desire to protect their democracy. Damn them! Damn them all!

UPDATE: why not go and play with the people at Pickled Politics? They are, almost exclusively, a bunch of no-nothing fuckwits motivated by half-remembered rumours and rampant bigotry: go and poke them with a stick. It's funny.

Gunnar Heinsohn has got the most rational explanation for all this.

Give them something worth fighting for and maybe they will sit down together. Their economy is non-existent, there is little or no employment, and there is little chance of a feasible democracy. What do they have to fight for except for as gangs of roving thugs? There is nothing left to fight for except for the party of your choice.

As for the Israelis, are you honestly suggesting they are without any culpability?

This is far more complex than Jew good/Pal bad, and it does you no credit to try and portray it as such.

I would also like to point out that the use of the word "palestinian" to describe warring, second or third generation arab immigrants is misleading - the main population of palestine and Israel is and always has been, through to ancient time, the Jewish people. It was a degrading term used by the Romans after a particular bloody revolt at occupation to describe the native jewish populace right before the diaspora (which still left a majority jewish population there).
Let Fatah and Hamas kill each other off; this is the political and social equivalent of shooting yourself in the foot - the terrorists deplete resources they could use to murder innocent Israeli's and when the world is dumbstruck at the barbarism of the left-appointed champions it will reveal their own hypocrisy.

Yeah, right.

Their economy is non-existent, there is little or no employment,

Well, just maybe, just fucking maybe, if they decided to stop trying to kill the Jews and each other, they might concentrate on building an economy.

They might even, and I know that I'm pushing the boat out here, use the economic infrastructure that the Israelis left intact in Gaza. If they did that, rather than spending their time firing rockets into Israeli towns (which started less than a week after Israel left the Gaza strip), then they might start to build a functional economy.

For fuck's sake, Shotgun, Israel as the Jews inherited it from the British protectorate was not exactly flowing with milk and honey. But they actually decided to make a fist of it rather than spend their time trying to destroy their neighbours.

In fact, the Jews made a pretty fucking good job of building an economy whilst being almost constantly fucking nearly invaded ever since they got there.

Further, the Palestinian Authrity has been in receipt of billions of pounds worth of aid for many, many years. That the Palestinian leaders, like Yasser "£7.5 billion in my personal bank account" Arafat, have decided to squander or plunder that money does not do anyone any credit.

These people are no better than Mugabe and any of the tin-pot African dictators.

and there is little chance of a feasible democracy.

Ask youself why that is the case, will you?

What do they have to fight for except for as gangs of roving thugs? There is nothing left to fight for except for the party of your choice.

Please, you are just being naive now.

As for the Israelis, are you honestly suggesting they are without any culpability?

No, but are you seriously suggesting that the effective civil war between Hamas and Fatah is primarily driven by Israel? Seriously?

This is far more complex than Jew good/Pal bad, and it does you no credit to try and portray it as such.

You may have noticed (though obviously not) the slight tongue-in-cheek nature of this piece. I wrote it to kick Lefties and their disgusting fucking attitudes in essentially blaming the whole thing on Israel, really.

Like you say - not exactly Israel's fault but you forget that the Palestinians are an officially designated victim group.

I actually think it's in Israel's interest *not* to have a civil war on their doorstep. It's not exactly good for business - is it?

However, the whole area is fucked. Have you ever seen a map of the West Bank? There is *no way* to separate the populations into 2 states so they are all screwed.

Mark Wadsworth said...

Like Pakistan and Bangladesh? Why, necessarily?

Guido,

Its very good for business, according to Naomi Klein.

DK - I note that Katy Newton is a contributor both here and at PP. What is it that she sees in Sunny and the rest that you do not?

@mark

AFAIK there were no criss-crossing West-Pakistani-only roads containing Bengali-only enclaves in 1971 East Pakistan.

More importantly, East and West Pakistan were/are geographically separated by India.

GF, I admit I may have missed your point, let me re-phrase that

PS - Does anybody else think that "Gaza Strip" would be a great name for a night club with pole dancers?

They fucking did, until that is a Jewish fundamentalist decided to fuck it up.

Are you really that dim on this subject?

I can't even be bothered answering this naive shite DK.

We don't disagree on much, but this is one where you are way out.

@robert

Well OK the arms industry is doing well - but if you're getting $2-3 billion a year from the American taxpayer they ought to be. They'll do even better now they have a serious enemy to fight in Hizbullah.

@mark

I was referring to Israel/Palestine split (which is what I meant by the whole area) rather than Palestine/Palestine which is not a secession - both factions want control of all 'the territories'.

How can we possibly discuss the Palestinian situation when news comes in of an even greater tragedy and loss to mankind than Hamas or Fatah:

The good news however is that Yasser Arafish is still dead.

The West has poured billions of dollars into this shithole for what? So they can carry on breeding more terrorist scum. Fuck them, and fuck all their bleeding heart liberal supporters. My prediction the Iranians will supply them with a nuke in a couple of years time and the incompetent Pali morons will turn Gaza into glass.

Mark,

Only if it featured regular oil wrestling contests between nubile Israeli army babes and equally nubile Palestinian Fatahettes. Actually, now I come to think of it, wouldn't that be a far better way to settle all international arguments?

Just think: Grotistan has a border dispute with Hellholia. The UN clears the General Assembly of all those diplomats and sets up a big ring in the middle. The Misses Grotistan and Hellholia strip down, oil up and set to. All refereed by Bankie Moonie.

Even for someone with a more than healthy liking for explosions and destruction this approach to peackeeping sounds appealing.

Okay, now I've had a cold shower I can get back to the point I was going to make before Mark distracted me.

I think it was PJ O'Rourke who quoted a US Marine on the subject of peacekeeping: "There are some places so fucked up that the only solution is to build a bloody great wall around the place, give the population better weapons and let them sort it out amongst themselves."*

The Marine was commenting on Mogadishu in the early 90's, but I can't shake the feeling that the West Bank and Gaza also fall into this category.

Mr. Hughes said...

I have already alluded to the remarkable helpfulness Hamas and Fatah have shown recently, in attempting to wipe one another out, on my own politico 'blog' http://lahgbr.wordpress.com/.
It's a pity that civilians have to be murdered in the process (but don't worry, the liberal-left media will largely ignore that, as of course only deaths of civilians at the hands of the Israelis matter) - but on the whole I think this is an excellent development. And as you say, the wise decision of the EU commissars to restore funding to Fatah should help stoke the flames very effectively. If the 'Palestinians' could somehow extract themselves from the control of corrupt criminals and thugs masquerading as 'freedom-fighters' there might be some hope of a rational peace settlement in the Middle East. Unfortunately, as we all know, this is highly unlikely, as the whole situation is self-perpetuating; there was a really nauseating photo on the BBC News front page of a 10 year-old boy holding a Palestinian flag and shaking hands with a masked Hamas gunman which said everything, really. And when you see Arab women being interviewed on TV rejoicing in the 'martyrdom' of their son and offering the rest of their children for 'the struggle', you realise that any hope of sanity is futile. Therefore the more the terrorist groups fight one another, the better; in the long run perhaps they will exhaust themselves, lose world support and maybe even disillusion their unfortunate and naive supporters.
'Shotgun' - are you seriously suggesting that the 'Palestinian'-administered territories have ever been anything but corrupt, brutal gangster fiefdoms run by people whose main interest is lining their own pockets and using Israel and 'the Jews' as an excuse to keep their poverty-stricken, hopeless masses on side in the process? Because if you are, 'naive' is hardly a strong enough word for you.
Also I cannot agree strongly enough with DK's condemnation of the disgusting, hypocritical, utterly nauseating routine anti-Semitism of the liberal-left media, in the UK and elsewhere, on the subject of the Middle East conflict. If the kind of racist shit that is absolutely standard in The Guardian and elsewhere were applied to any other racial group it would be seen as deeply objectionable and legally actionable, but because the ideological world-view of the Left (if you can dignify it with that title - more like the blinkered, unreasoning, mindless prejudice and lack of education of) decrees that 'the Palestinians' are 'good', however much murder, mayhem, corruption and mendacity they display, whereas the Israelis are 'bad', however many attempts at compromise and negotiation they make, routine racist slander of 'the Jews' is deemed acceptable, and is steadily becoming normalised in our oh-so-responsible media. I think it's an absolute disgrace, and deeply shameful for a country that once stood up for decency against Nazism and anti-Semitism. And I'm not even Jewish; can you *imagine* how pissed off I would be if I was!?

Guido Faux said...

@myself

"not a secession - both factions want control of all 'the territories'."

But meanwhile Hamas (Iran/Syria allegedly) control Gaza and Fatah (US/UK/EU/Israel etc) control the West Bank so there is a de facto separation.

Rumour has it that Hamas got their hands on some juicy info regarding Palestinian (Fatah) intelligence links with Israel and the West, when they overran Fatah HQ.
