Sorry, but things are going to be a little chaotic in The Kitchen for a while. I'm out this evening, but will be back to tidy things up tomorrow.

Hope you like the new look (it should, at least, load faster, for the present), which is to tie in with my professional design site.

UPDATE: I have culled quite a few widgets, etc. from my sidebar and things still seem to be loading relatively quickly.

I have also finally dumped Haloscan: I have run the dual comments system for some time now and people were still using both, so I decided to force the issue! I still allow Anonymous comments on the Blogger system, so there really is no need for Haloscan—which I installed to block spam before Blogger introduced its security system—to remain. Besides, the Haloscan systems were some of the slowest loading page elements here.

As usual, feeback is appreciated.

UPDATE 2: I am going to keep things the way that they are at present, on the grounds that I need to concentrate on my paying clients. However, do feel free to leave comments about broken elements, but could you quote your browser version and operating system when doing so, please? All elements seem to be fine on Mac OS 10.4 in Safari, Firefox, Camino, Flock and Opera.

Your site has never looked right for me in IE6 1024x768

It still doesn't.

Bishop Hill: cheers.

Pete: I'll bet you wish you did!

Tim: cheers.

Anon: can you describe why it doesn't look right now (and I'm aware of the big gap between the date and content of the first post). What else is breaking?

Think it looks great!

DK,

I have snags with IE6 on my blog, the columns don't float correctly and they overlap. Those viewing it in IE7 or firefox have no problems.

Could this be your problem too?

I've tried and failed to fix it, so I'm waiting for everyone to upgrade to IE7. My blog is still functional in IE6, it just looks a bit of a mess.

I'm viewing in IE6 as well, and I have the same problem. The sidebar seems to be displacing the body of the blog, so I have to scroll down to reach the posts, which sits just below the Statcounter.

I like the redesign otherwise.

P.s I do like the new design. It has a good 3D feel about it.

Not sure about the other stuff, but the post is shoved down the page by this, immediately before the #news div: [div style="clear:both;"][/div].

Pete,

Thanks for spotting that: I would have buggered about with the template for ages since that tag is actually in the Blogger Formatting settings and not in the template at all...

Now fixed, I think. Any feedback from IE users would be great.

Sidebar? What sidebar? There isn't one on Firefox.

That's better!

Bloody haloscan has been driving me bonkers; it has been down most of the weekend.

What will happen to your comment archives though?

Comments start way down the page

Hi, loads much quicker!!! I like the redesign, nice one.

P. O'Rouke quote doesn't overlap, cool.

On IE6 the comments start below the side bar...

Also, are those coffee beans in your banner? I don't get it?

It looks terrific dear devil, and I'm not just saying that because you linked to me, for which I am very honoured and don't think I have said thank you yet, so thank you. It does seem a lot faster, although I will miss the old routine of logging on before going to bed so that you have just finished loading when I wake up the next morning. That's progress I suppose, sigh.

I'm still experiencing the same issue as Dr Eugenides, in that the content doesn't start until the end of the sidebar, which is a fair bit down the screen.

Using IE6 on WinXP. Haven't checked on Firefox at home, assuming it's all rendered correctly there.

Oh, and your's isn't the only blog that does this. Might be a Blogger thing if you use their DIVs...

yeah love the new design Devil. it would load quicker though if there weren't so many posts on the front page by default.... the page is so long it's hard to work out where you are.

also internet explorer is a bastard...in my experience with web coding I can make things that look good in firefox but then it takes twice as long again to adjust it to be compatible with IE, so i usually just give up and assume since IE isnt really a proper browser, people using it dont deserve to read my words of wisdom.

guess thats not an option though :p
