Trixy spells it out...
The fraud in VAT is enormous, and yet we have to go begging to France to get anything done about it, when if we weren't in the EU we wouldn't even have to ask anyone else for permission to do what the government must do as a duty of care.

It's astonishing that anyone can think that the EU is a good idea, unless they are mentally retarded. It damages everything it goes anywhere near.

So why are we still in it?

I don't know. You could try asking Oliver Letwin (although I wouldn't hold your breath for a convincing answer)...

Rather like saying "I'm not paranoid, it's just that everyone else is after me". Well I'm so "retarded" that I find the inanity of such statements amusing in the extreme. And how's that completely sane former UKIP representative Kilroy Silk doing these days?

PS there's an interesting word you might want to look up in the dictionary: "credibility".

DK,

Trixy is, of course, right on the money - if anything her outlook's too optimistic.

Carousel fraud is now so prevalent that for all practical purposes the UK's trade figures cannot be measured properly; meaning, of course, that the true state of the national finances are impossible to determine.

From the ONS, 13/3/2007 -

"Following a change in the pattern of trading associated with Missing Trader Intra-Community (MTIC) fraud, identified by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, interpretation of the breakdown between EU and non-EU trade is more difficult. Originally, most carousel chains only involved EU member states. More recently, some carousel chains have included non-EU countries, for example, Dubai and Switzerland. However, the import adjustment is applied only to EU imports as the goods return to the UK via the EU - but it is this part of the trading chain that is not recorded. "

"The existing estimates account for the known impact of carousel fraud on the statistics, so the project included work to investigate if it was possible to estimate the impact of other VAT fraud (notably acquisition fraud) on Intra-Community trade statistics.

The team concluded that it was not possible to extend or refine the estimates for the impact of fraud on the statistics using the currently available sources" -

And that was two years ago.

To be honest, Sanddef, you do look a bit retarded in your photo.

You're yet another one of these people who attack yet don't say quite why.

Please do feel free to back up your statements with some facts. If you have any.

Peter Mandelson himself was so sure of his position on the EU that he backed out of doing a live debate with Nigel Farage on the Andrew Marr show the other morning and insisted that he did a straight interview at the end of the show, well away from the impressive arguments put forward by Farage.

Seems to be the way with europhiles. Like that twat Kinnock.

Yes, it's called "not taking yourself too seriously", something you should try, because no-one else does.

Sanddef is a typical europhile; so obviously and arrogantly RIGHT that there is no need to make even a pretence of a reasoned argument. He resembles one of those "lib" "dems" you describe so accurately above.

Yep. But less of the "Lib-Dem", please. I do have feelings.
