Chris Lightfoot is dead
One of the very first bloggers that I read with any regularity was Chris Lightfoot. His work on the technicalities of ID Cards was not only detailed, but also in the vanguard of criticisms. The VoxPolitics blog described him as "a one-man thinktank" (and they have a very good roundup of some of his best articles). Chris was also instrumental in some of those utilities which we take for granted, such as TheyWorkForYou.com.
Chris had not posted for a while but, out of a sort of respect, I had kept his URL in my RSS Reader. Thus I was overjoyed to note that he had posted this morning. Only he hadn't.
He will be missed by this blogger. Besides, your humble Devil is a year older than Chris and a sense of mortality is casting a shade...!
UPDATE: more tributes from ChickenYoghurt, No2ID and MySociety (the people behind TheyWorkForYou, etc.).

Chris Lightfoot died unexpectedly on 11th February 2007. He is sadly missed by family, friends and colleagues. The funeral was held at St. Bene't's Church, Cambridge, on 23rd February 2007. Donations, if wished, should be sent to www.no2id.net.

Anyone get the feeling that Mr. Lightfoot was bumped off by New Labour ala Dr. David Kelly?
You are a year older than him. Oh shit, that means that he was my age.
I'm scared.
I don't know what your comments deletion policy is, but anonymous at 1252 is adding nothing to a horrible piece of news.
Alan,
Granted, but my comments policy is not to delete any.
