Mutilation is wrong

There are some people who are, without doubt, beyong the fucking pale. The kind of people who cut out the clitori and labia of babies are these kinds of people.

They are, generally, Africans (although Arabs and general followers of Islam are also usually pretty keen) and I can't say that I'm tremendously surprised that these pig-ignorant, primitive fuckwits are still mutilating women for absolutely no reason other than, possibly, some stinking insecurity that, should these women enjoy sex, then they will become cheating sluts.

As I have pointed out before, there's no excuse for it: absolutely none at all. These people are quite simply the fucking dregs of humanity. And you know what, no matter the problems with our society, I am no cultural relativist: because though we have problems, at least we aren't removing the sexual organs of babies.

And just to drive the point home, courtesy of Trixy, here's a video (and a petition for you to sign) of some barbarian fuckheads cutting off the clitoris and labia minora of a young girl without anaesthetic (and remember, chaps, there's as many nerve endings in the clitoris as there are in the entirety of your penis).

And here is UKIP's Press Release on the subject.
This evil practice must stop

08-03-2007

On International Women's Day, the practice of female genital mutilation was denounced by Rachel Oxley, Vice-Chairman of the UK Independence Party who called for more effective action over the issue. "Over 3 million young girls a year are still being tortured and abused through the practice of female genital mutilation; it is on the increase in the UK".

According to the leading NGO working on the subject in the UK, Forward (Foundation for Women's Health Research & Development) upwards of 6,000 girls a year in Britain are at threat of this barbaric act.

Miss Oxley said, "Though this practice has been against the law in Britain since 1985, and it is now illegal for a girl to be taken abroad to be mutilated, the problem is getting worse.

There have been almost no convictions and very few charges because the authorities are scared that they will be accused of racism. That fear destroys these girls' lives and must end".

The UK Independence Party is utterly committed to equality before the law, and this transcends, religious cultural and ethnic background.

Personally, I think that the men performing this operation should have their wedding tackle tied to a block and beaten continually with car aerials for days and days and days.

You don't hear about this shit from fucking GAP year students, do you?

Oh, just wait for the apologists with their cries of 'It's their cultchur, innit..'.

If a party needs a 'mission statement (dreadful thing to have, tbh..) it could do worse than this one. Much, much worse.

There have been almost no convictions and very few charges because the authorities are scared that they will be accused of racism. Really? I'd have thought the difficulty was more likely to be getting the victim to make a complaint; that's usually the problem in abuse cases.

Is there, in fact, any evidence that the authorities are unwilling to prosecute for fear of being accused of racism? The BMA Guidelines seem pretty clear about doctors' responsibility to report their concerns to social services. Rather worryingly, though, data about frequently such reports are made isn't collected. Are UKIP (or anyone else) aware of cases where local authorities have been unwilling to act on such reports? I only ask because I wish to know.

I see, by the way, that Forward is of the opinion that the UK should recognise flight from a country to escape the risk of FGM as legitimate grounds for granting asylum. Does UKIP have any views on the matter?

Ooops ... I forgot; the plural is clitorides -- it's Greek, not Latin, and if it were Latin it would more likely be clitores; it would only be clitori if the singular were clitorus. Didn't they teach classics at DK's old school?

Not Saussure,

I knew someone would pick me up on the clitoral plural: it's been a long time since I studied Latin and I never studied Greek.

As to your questions, I don't know the answers. I shall try to find out...

I'm sitting here in fucking tears after watching less than 3 seconds of this poor child being brutalised. I'm a mother of three daughters, and these fucking monsters should be lined against a wall and shot. I really am in floods here. People go all shocked at an animal being mistreated, maybe if this was shown, more folk might sit up and take notice, and no it's not fucking racist to call them evil bastards.

Time for a reality check.
In the communities where female circumcision is practised the local doctors are all too likely to be from the same communities themselves. Try living in somewhere like Hackney and getting taken on by a NHS GP who isn't Muslim or African.

NS: The ages of girls suffering from this hideous, barbaric treatment are usually between the ages of 4-7, which makes any cases of asylum rather tricky based on the fact they can't really travel on their own.

I would have thought the best way is not to grant asylum to everyone, but to actually take some action and speak up against the people who do it and allow it. And not to hide behind all this 'went can't criticise religion and culture..' because quite frankly, they can fuck off.

Trixy, if you read the House of Lords debate on the subject, you'll see that a fair number of claims are, in fact, lodged in various countries by teenagers and young women who've managed so far to escape FGM but fear, if they remain at home, they'll be forced to undergo it.   And there appear also to be claims from women who've suffered this themselves and are understandably anxious lest the same horrific fate befall their daughters.

You suggest that we should send them back with the reassurance that we'll 'actually take some action and speak up against the people who do it and allow it'.    Do you think that will afford these girls and women adequate protection?    I'm not at all sure I'd take much comfort from such reassurances were I in an equivalent position -- having reached comparative safety, I'd think I'd want to stay safe rather than trust in the deterrent value of people promising to 'speak up' on my behalf once I got home.

As you know DK, I've just come back from Tanzania. The Maasai still practice female circumcision. At around 10-11 years of age. Boys have it done to at around 13.
